The Bhagavatstuti in the Sixth Chapter of the Haravijaya
The Haravijaya is a Mahākāvya or epic poem composed by Ratnākara in 9th century Kashmir. It contains in its sixth chapter an ode to Śiva in which the god is praised in terms of the philosophical concepts current at that time and is thus an early literary witness of Śaiva Tantra. Peter Pasedach, supervised by Harunaga Isaacson, is preparing a new edition of this chapter, including its commentary by Alaka and also a previously unpublished commentary by Utpala, which, Alaka's commentary being lost for a major portion of this chapter, provides us with commentarial material for these often cryptic verses of Ratnākara for the first time, and thus greatly helps in identifying their allusions to different philosophical schools and their respective texts.
